Staff Transition at Building Faith

Join us in celebrating an exciting transition within the VTS Department of Lifelong Learning.

Charlotte Hand Greeson, who has served as Co-Editor for Building Faith since 2014, is leaving the editorial staff to take up new responsibilities at VTS. She has faithfully stewarded the site for six years, lifting up great ideas and connecting Christian formation folks with voices of emerging leaders. The time is right for Charlotte to pursue her passion for leadership and ministry development in different ways.

We are delighted that Charlotte is not going too far. Last year, Charlotte accepted a position as the Program Coordinator for Thriving in Ministry (A Lilly Endowment Inc.-supported initiative housed at Virginia Theological Seminary) and more recently she took on responsibilities as Associate for Ministry Development in Lifelong Learning.  Charlotte will continue to represent Lifelong Learning on social media platforms, particularly in Facebook discussion forums, to foster engagement with the wider church. She will continue to serve as part of the Christian Formation & Discipleship team within Lifelong Learning, offering her expertise, vital questions, and wide network to guide our work.

Charlotte has been carefully mentoring and handing responsibilities off to our new Editor, Sarah Bentley Allred, for over a year. This anticipated transition has not been made lightly or without intention. Sarah, in turn, will continue to be supported by our Associate for Digital Content, Keith Anderson.

Leadership transitions matter. They provide opportunity for vocational growth and program development. Charlotte was instrumental in shaping and growing the ministry of Building Faith for six of its 10 years. Now, as we move into our second decade with a redesigned, more robust website, Sarah Bentley Allred is well prepared to lead Building Faith into a flourishing future. We look forward to being in ministry with all of you, our readers, as we boldly step into a new decade of equipping leaders to teach the faith!

Gratitude for Charlotte

It has been my great privilege to work with Charlotte over the last four years, first as a work-study student in the MDiv program then as part of the Building Faith editorial team. Building Faith would not be what it is today without Charlotte’s gifts for curation, networking, practical theology, creative ideas, concise editing, and thoughtful response to events within our community, the church, and the world. I have learned a tremendous amount from Charlotte and I’m so glad we will continue to serve together on the Lifelong Learning team! As we move into a new decade at Building Faith, it is an honor to steward this incredible resource that others have worked so diligently to build.
~ Sarah Bentley Allred, Editor of Building Faith and Associate for Christian Formation & Discipleship in Lifelong Learning

Building Faith is such an apt name for a ministry that is constantly evolving and maturing. Building faith takes time. It requires discipline and practice. It requires engagement with other Christians. For six years Charlotte embodied the mission of Building Faith, always believing we could do more to reach Christian formation leaders with timely, creative, theologically sound, and inspiring resources. At the same time, she listened deeply, allowing her own faith to be stretched and grow. She thrived on finding new contributors to expand our theological imagination and diversify our content. Thank you, Charlotte, for building my faith in the power of collaborative curation for Christian discipleship.
~ Lisa Kimball, Associate Dean of Lifelong Learning and the James Maxwell Professor of Lifelong Christian Formation
